The present study proposes operation scenarios with one-hour resolution in a whole year of operation of a microgrid for electric power generation isolated from the public grid.
In a first phase, the energy consumption profile of a productive process that intends to be supplied with the best levelized cost of electric energy and the highest penetration of renewable energies is characterized. The profile of the solar resource supply on the site as well as the energy demand, taking into account the seasonal issues, is surveyed with a high resolution precision and presentation of results. The construction of this demand profile is carried out by means of real load surveys and statistical criteria of usage and simultaneity factors.
In the second phase, the natural resources, wind speed and solar radiation available in the study area are analyzed using specialized software and taking into account the meteorological statistics available, qualifying them with their uncertainty. Subsequently, the feasibility of the elements of renewable electricity generation to be used is analyzed and defined, and a possible thermal generation system (Hi-Speed or Low Speed Gensets) and its fuel use are also proposed in order to complement the microgrid in aspects of inertia and stability.
Finally, with the energy demand and generation resources proposed, architecture alternatives are designed, evaluating the different levelized costs of equipment, energy and storage, taking into account the cost of money and the payback period, as well as the price trends of inputs and equipment, in order to clearly provide the criteria for strategic decision making for investment projects in supplies for isolated systems.
